You Got Me (Remix) - The Roots ft Erykah Badu - The Apple Scruffs Edit - Click to download.
Here’s another remix from The Apple Scruffs. They are always on the blog because they’re awesome and do great work with their edits/remixes. They always maintain the feel of the original but spice it up in very subtle ways. Enjoy.
by Robert Glasper ft Erykah Badu
Robert Glasper is a musical genius. No denying that. This Houston native grew up listening to the sounds of his mother singing jazz and blues in clubs and churches. Glasper says that he first developed his sounds accompanying his mother at church gigs. As a jazz pianist and producer, he’s backed/produced some of my favorite artists doing it - J Dilla, Mos Def(Yasiin Bey), Q-Tip, Talib Kweli, Erykah Badu, etc… This guy is the truth.
Cop his new album Black Radio on iTunes.

Ahhh back from vacation and feeling refreshed. Sunny Miami Beach and Naples, Florida treated me quite nicely for the past week. However, back to life, back to reality… Here’s some jammer remixes from Captain Planet. He remixes our faves, Erykah Badu and Katy B. Dig.
Cleva - Erykah Badu - Captain Planet Remix - Love the vibe on this one, very tropical. via
Katy On a Mission - Katy B - Captain Planet Remix - Damn. Mr. Planet cannot miss. via

The most gangster shit in the world is to know what’s going on. ~ Immortal Technique
A La Modeliste - Mark Ronson feat Erykah Badu, Mos Def, Trombone Shorty, Zigaboo Modeliste and the Dap-Kings - Damn! What a motley assortment on this jammer. This track is part of the Re:GENERATION project that we discussed yesterday. If these two songs (this and yesterday’s Primo/Nas/Orchestra) are any indication of the quality we can expect from Re:Generation I’m SOUPED and you should be too.
Toxic - FKi ft Yael Naim (Prod by FKi Mayhem) - FKi updates this gem of a cover by Yael Naim. I dig it. It’s slow, sultry and oozing with fun.
Sign of the Times - Immortal Technique - If you don’t listen to Harlem’s Immortal Technique, you are slacking on your social consciousness. Tech speaks to the injustice’s in the world and the country and he does so convincingly and from a position of intelligence. This song opens up with Native American sounds. Beautiful.

I spit that wonder rhymer shit, me and my conglomerates, shall remain anonymous, caught up in the finer shit… get that type of media coverage obama get, spit that kurt vonnegut… that blow your brain, kurt cobain, that nirvana shit… ~ Jay Electronica
Run & Hide - Jay Electronica & The Bullits - Jay Elec. is one of my favorite up and coming rappers. Dude is intelligent, well spoken and better written. His raps inspire thought, reflection and awe. Dig this dude. via
Face The Facts - Mac Miller - Prod by DJ Premier - A new Primo beat and Daaaaaamn, it makes me want more. Primo really can’t miss. Mac goes in on this one. Still not the biggest fan of his voice, but he shines on this one.via
Hoop Dreams - XV - Prod by B. Dolla - As I’m sure you can tell by now, XV is my dude. I’m so pumped for every new song I’ve found from him. Dude has this tenacious charisma that I’m feeling big time these days. He’s hungry. via

Today’s post, well the written part anyhow, is about intelligence. More to the point, today’s post is about intelligence being incredibly sexy. I recently came across the word: sapiosexual (n.) - a person who is sexually attracted to intelligence in others. This fits the bill. I love this new (to me) word and will go so far as to describe myself as a sapiosexual. However, I won’t say that intelligence alone is enough for a sustaining relationship, obviously there are many other facets to attraction and healthy relationships. But I digress… here are today’s jams (what you’re all here for).
Honey - Erykah Badu - Mark Wayward Remix - The original Madlib version of this track is heat… but i dig this remix that Mr. Wayward puts to it. Might you?
Eleanor Rigby Dubstep Remix - The Beatles - 4 Centers Mix - I have said before that remixing classics is dangerous and I stand behind that. …But I like the shit out of this. Yes, another Eleanor Rigby mix, but this track is exactly what’s great about dubstep remixes. All the wampy bass parts under an amazing beatles melody. 4 Centers out of northern Nevada, killin’ it.
Diamonds are Forever - Shirley Bassey (Butch Clancy Remix) - Yezzir.
Truth, Deception & Lies - Lee Fields (Aloe Blacc remix) - WOOOO! Lee Fields crushes! …and getting a remix from Aloe is an accomplishment in it’s own right. Old school and new school doing it. Jammer.

album Act 1: Eternal Sunshine (The Pledge)

Jay Electronica is a beast. I’m grateful to have him in the music scene at a time like this. He is an artist in every sense of the word. Today we celebrate Eternal Sunshine/The Pledge in which he looped up my favorite riff from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and spit some unbelievable bars to it. In the full version (below), he actually loops 4 different riffs from the movie and rhymes to them. The song above the image, is the first part and my favorite. I’m compelled to post at least the ending lyrics:
“Fuck rap this God-hop,
Kingdom music for the hard rocks
I’mma spit it till T-R-L get it and Hot ninety-seven hit the homie with a bomb drop
Ask Flex, ask Slay, ask Who Kidd
Just blaze said Jay is the new kid
I took Eternal Sunshine and I looped it
No drums no hook just new shit!”
Peep the shortened track above the image in the player and the full track (all 15 mins of it) with a foreword by Jay Electronica’s ex-lady, Erykah Badu and Just Blaze, below.
Jay’s full movement of four looped Eternal Sunshine riffs with no drums is comprised of four sections:
Part I - Eternal Sunshine
Part II - Paper Thin
Part III - Voodoo Man
Part IV - FYI
Eternal Sunshine(The Pledge) - Jay Electronica
