New Years Eve 2012 MegaMix

Happy New Years Eve, friends! Here’s a megamix of some of my fave songs posted here throughout the year. It was tough to narrow it down but I really dig these tracks. Play this loud while imbibing and enjoying your friends or family or whoever you have close. It’s been an amazing year for the site, music and life. Looking forward to a fantastic 2012 and wishing all of you the same! Cheers!

BTSTU - Jai Paul - I know this song originally dropped in 2010, but I found it and posted it in January 2011. Sooo, that makes it eligible for this mix. IT’s a banger. If you missed it, I’m glad you get to hear it now. Originally posted here.

Rolling In The Deep - Voodoo Farm Remix - Adele vs Jay-Z vs Biggie - Ironically, this track was originally posted with the above track in January 2011. You knew this song had to be on here. At least one remixed version had to be here, might as well feature Biggie. Masterfully mashed by Voodoo Farm, a popular name here in 2011. Originally posted here.

2.0 Boys - Eminem ft Slaughterhouse & Yelawolf - This song goes so damn hard. I mean DAMN. I don’t know if a harder rap song happened in 2011.

The Kick - XV - Produced by DJ Tech-neek - Love this song. A beat that samples the theme from Inception + a great hook + smart/awesome verses = great song. XV - the man from Kansas has done big things in 2011. I hope 2012 is good and delivers us a lot of new music from Vizzy. Originally posted here.

One Time - The Roots ft Phonte & Dice Raw - The Root’s newest album, undun, is a high contender for Album of the Year. Jammer. Originally posted here.

Cold Shoulder - Urban Noize - Jay-Z, Kanye West & Adele - One of the best mashups of the year. Originally posted here.

Words - Lupe Fiasco ft Skylar Grey - Lupe had a big year. None of his songs were bigger than this rally cry against the establishment. I love that Lupe says what he believes freely. It’s refreshing. Originally posted .

Everlasting Light - Alex Winston - Black Keys Cover - I Love Alex Winston. If you have seen the blog for the past few months you’d see my love is true. Here’s one of my fave covers of hers. Originally posted here.

Little Black Submarine - The Black Keys - One of my favorite albums of the year, El Camino, is a great addition to an already amazing and prolific Black Keys catalog. Dig it. Originally posted here.

Halftime - Amy Winehouse - There was also tragedy in 2011. The music world suffered the untimely loss of 27 year old Amy Winehouse. So sad. Originally posted here.

You Already Knew - Black Star - Produced by Oh No - 2011 brought the reunion of the legendary Black Star. Oooh weeee. Originally posted here.

Hii Power - Kendrick Lamar - One of the most exciting new come ups in the rap world was undoubtedly Compton’s Kendrick Lamar. Cheah. Originally posted here.

I Stand Alone - Theophilus London - Had to post it. Originally posted here.

A Long Time - Mayer Hawthorne - Chromeo Remix - Our boy Mayer got it done in 2011, evidenced here by this Chromeo remix. Originally posted here.

Videotapez - Amp Live ft Del the Funky Homosapien - Radiohead Remix - Amp Live is a beast on the beats. Del has one of the best voices/flows in hip hop. Add these two to Radiohead = crack music. Originally posted here.

Why I Love You - Jay-Z & Kanye West ft Mr. Hudson - Had to include this cut from Watch the Throne. Originally posted here.

Kendrick Lamar: Straight Outta Compton ft. J. Cole, Warren G, Murs, Busta

Kendrick Lamar born June 17, 1987 in Compton, California is exactly what hip hop has needed from the West Coast. A new young cat looking to make REAL music. KL is a hardcore Pac fan, it should be noted. Not only is Tupac Lamar’s favorite rapper, but he idolizes him in life as well dedicating at least 10 minutes at every show to Pac. Though I’m from the East where we rep Biggie, I’ll let this mild transgression slide and say that Kendrick Lamar is a refreshingly talented young rapper that I am pumped about. Enjoy this music.

Rigamortus Remix - Kendrick Lamar ft Busta Rhymes - Heater. New KL track freshly remixed and featuring the OG Busta Rhymes.

Look of Lust - Omen ft Kendrick Lamar & Shalonda - Rework of the old classic “Look of Love” off of Omen’s Afraid of Heights Mixtape featuring our boy from the CPT.

Hii Power - Kendrick Lamar - Prod J. Cole - Not new, and I’ve actually posted this before. But got damn. Love this joint.via

Enjoy - 9th Wonder ft Warren G, Murs & Kendrick Lamar

XV aka Vizzy is the Truth ft Pusha T and J. Cole

XV is the shit! The Wichita, KS rapper spits a lot of positivity and I love it. Born Donavan Johnson, his name XV comes from the roman numerals for 15 - the age at which he began to create music. His favorite rapper is Andre 3000 = Excellent. Enjoy this music.

Awesome - XV ft Pusha T - VA Beach’s Pusha T has been all over the place, thank Jah. I love dude’s flow. The Clipse are my shit, and Pusha T deserves the successful solo career he’s built himself. via

BITSTU freestyle - XV - Jai Paul remix - I posted this track before, but it’s a GEM. XV took one of my fave tracks of the year (Jai Paul’s BTSTU) and made a remix. via

Florence! Foster the People! J. Cole & Nas vs Urban Noize

It’s been a long time, I shouldn’t left you, without more heat to step to… …buuuuuut, I’m back with some jammers. So tune in and enjoy friends. In case you were wondering, I used the few days last week after my birthday on the 18th to relax and do things that didn’t involve the internet. Crazy, I know. But it was glorious. I urge you all to do the same. …After you peep these bangers of course ;)

Life on the Nickel - Foster The People - Mansions On the Moon Remix - Mansions on the Moon are new to me and I dig their sound. I also dig the fact that they chose to remix Foster The People. via

New HEAT from Jay Electronica, J. Cole, and Murs

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them - because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do. ~ RIP Steve Jobs, 1955-2011

Call of Duty - Jay Electronica ft Mobb Deep - Newness from the God, Jay Electronica featuring Mobb Deep. It’s official, after J. Cole’s release and Watch the Throne, Roc has the strongest label in hip hop. Dig. And yes that’s P saying “put your diamonds in the sky”? interrrresting…via

Can’t Get Enough - J. Cole ft Trey Songz - HEATER from our boy J. Cole. Crack beat.

Life and Times - Murs ft Ab Soul and OC - Heat from Murs and company. via

You Can - Body Language - Star Slinger Remix - I’ve posted the original “You Can” by Brooklyn’s Body Language - it’s a banger. Further I post just about every song the UK’s Star Slinger puts out, et voila - remix.

J. Cole & Jay-Z, Foster The People, MF DOOM & Exile

Smack - Zion I & The Grouch - Headnodic Remix - Jammer remix. I’ve never heard of Headnodic before but this impressive producer is behind the Crown City Rockers whose beats are dope. …And I’m a fan of Zion I & The Grouch. The Grouch’s voice and flow are unique and head-nod-inducing.

J. Cole= beast mode. Foster the People cover Weezer. Grieves & Budo. Cheah

Will they tarnish, will they taint? glorify me, overthink, say they know me, say Im great say Im phoney, I was fake say the things about me they never told me to my face. ~ J. Cole

Purple Rain - J. Cole - Off of his recently released mixtap, Friday Night Lights, J. Cole is the truth. I’m so excited for this cat. He’s a lyrical innovator/producer extraodinaire. So damn refreshing. Cop the whole mixtape here: Friday Night Lights, courtesy of 2 Dope Boyz. via

Say It Ain’t So - Foster the People - Weezer cover - Amazing. To return the favor of Weezer playing Pumped up Kicks at a recent show, Foster the People dropped this gem at a Prospect Park show in Brooklyn. Dope.

Best of Me - Grieves & Budo - I’ve posted a lot about these gents before. They’re awesome (pic above) and put on one of the best live shows I’ve seen. Grieves is so f’in charismatic and Budo is nothing short of a musical genius. Great talent and I couldn’t be happier for their success. Cheah via

Reverse Graffiti with Jay-Z, RZA, and J. Cole

According to knewdrew, “instead of using actual spray cans…some artist are just cleaning dirt off of certain areas to make their masterpieces. and they are calling it reverse graffiti. kind of brilliant.”

..And now for the bangers…

Never Chasing Pavement - Jay-Z featuring Adele & Kanye West - (Urban Noize Remix) - Cool remix from Urban Noize. With these three heavyweights on the track, you’d better damn well not mess the remix/beat up…

Music is the wine which inspires one to new generative processes, and I am Bacchus who presses out this glorious wine for mankind and makes them spiritually drunken ~ Ludwig van Beethoven

I recently saw Lost in Translation, hence why I chose the above image of my homie, Bill Murray, and the gorgeous Scarlett Johansson (ScarJo- jajajaja). Just lovely. Amazing Music Post: Beastie Boys + Santigold, Recess + Blu, and StartYourOwnRebellion

santigold

I’m tremendously excited about today’s post. It’s straight fire and nothing less. Enjoy.

Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win - Beastie Boys & Santigold - This shit BANGS. Damn makes me so excited for summer, beautiful scenery and frosty beverages all while snuggly behind the protection of some shades. Ooohwee. Also notable is how any song Santigold is on becomes her song. She’s such a musical force on any song, it’s amazing. Be sure to pre-order the new beastie boys joint here.

If You Want Too - StartYourOwnRebellion - (via mostlyjunkfood.com) StartYourOwnRebellion is awesome. They recently signed to J. Cole’s label and put out the mixtape, LP3020 which you can download for free, here.

How Do You Sleep - Recess feat Blu - Saw this a mostlyjunkfood also. It’s a heater. One of my top emcee’s, Blu, is featured on this Recess track that is just awesome. I don’t know how to call this band or the sound. It’s just great.
