by Robert Glasper ft Erykah Badu
Robert Glasper is a musical genius. No denying that. This Houston native grew up listening to the sounds of his mother singing jazz and blues in clubs and churches. Glasper says that he first developed his sounds accompanying his mother at church gigs. As a jazz pianist and producer, he’s backed/produced some of my favorite artists doing it - J Dilla, Mos Def(Yasiin Bey), Q-Tip, Talib Kweli, Erykah Badu, etc… This guy is the truth.
Cop his new album Black Radio on iTunes.

Steely Chan’s been on the blog recently. Dude’s a beast. Originally from Vancouver but now making music in Toronto, Steely Chan CRUSHES. I love this stuff. Check these guys out on their Soundcloud

I’m pleased to introduce (to those of you who didn’t already know) to the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble. This 9-piece Chicago ensemble is a veritable “band of brothers” as 8 of the 9 members are sons of Phil Cohran the legendary jazz trumpeter. The 8 brothers all play horns and are joined by Gabriel “Manuels” Wallace on drums. These guys are tight and have played with some of the best musicians of our times. Enjoy these tracks below. And buy their album from iTunes: Hypnotic Brass Ensemble

Earlier this fall, the music world was rattled with the untimely death of unbelievably talented songstress, Amy Winehouse. Amy’s posthumous release, Lioness: Hidden Treasures is incredible do yourself a favor, BUY THIS ALBUM
. Enjoy a few tracks below.
The Girl from Ipanema - Amy Winehouse - This song is a jazz/bossa nova standard originally recorded by Astrud Gilberto and Stan Getz in 1964. Amy does a great job on it. However, I LOVE Astrud Gilberto’s voice. Her song “Gentle Rain” is one of my faves and was remixed by another fave, RJD2. You can check that here: Gentle Rain.
Halftime - Amy Winehouse - Another cut from Lioness: Hidden Treasure. Heater.
